For Such a Time as This
We’ve all heard this verse from Esther 4:14 quoted, “For such a time as this..” but I believe these words are carrying more Spirit-filled weight than ever before. When spending time over the new year in reflection and gratitude for all that the Lord has done, in and through me, in 2023, I also sought to hear what He had in store for 2024, and this is what I heard Him say: “It is time to use your training for reigning.” As I allowed these words to resound in my mind and heart, the Holy Spirit began to remind me of times of difficulty and suffering in my life. Specifically, I began to remember the times when I may have questioned God’s goodness, as well as the times I had questioned my faithfulness to Him, times when I had fallen into focusing on my problems instead of trusting the Almighty Problem-Solver.
As a professional counselor, one of the most familiar conversations I have with my clients is the spiritual mystery of why God allows “good” people to suffer. I found that there was no earthly or human explanation that could adequately answer this question, especially for those in the depth of their grief, trauma, or loss. What kind of wisdom could I offer that would even begin to soothe their broken heart, fear or desperation? Jesus warns us that in this life we will have trouble, but that we are not to be disheartened, rather we can rejoice knowing He has overcome the world and all that is in it, which includes our life circumstances. ( John 16:33)
Now believe me, I have experienced my fair share of pain, and when I am in the throes of experiencing what seems like unjust suffering, someone counseling me to simply believe that God will use what I am going through for good? That He is only allowing it to happen for my benefit? That in some way this torturous situation will bring Him glory? Well, that’s not exactly what I want to hear, nor is it easy to believe in that moment, but it is the TRUTH. God is the Architect of life. He sees the beginning from the end, not just your life, but every life from the beginning of time until the day of His return, and we must stand firm in our faith, “knowing God causes all things to work together for good to those who love God, to those who are called according to His purpose.” -Romans 8:28
So, I am encouraged today, as I write this, that God is good. He is faithful. He is trustworthy. And He has ordained our steps, the painful ones, as well as the times of harvest and rejoicing. This is a season where there may be great suffering and chaos in the world, but His Beloved can be confident of this, the One whom you love and serve has prepared you, for such a time as this. Remember what you have endured. Remember who He was to you in those times. How can you share the testimony of His overcoming and redemptive nature with those around you? Not a single ounce of your pain will be wasted or forgotten. The Lord has saved every one of your tears in a bottle and they are pure gold in the treasure chest of your heavenly rewards. It’s time to use your training for reigning, it’s time to be the army of Christ. You are ready mighty warrior, simply trust the Great Commander has prepared you for victory, in this designated time in history!
